Music Project

The vision of Music at Brandlehow Primary School is that Music is fully embedded in every aspect of school life and our aspiration is that every child adopts a lifelong love of music.

Music is taught by Janet Price, our specialist music teacher. Weekly music lessons are lively and interactive that aim to foster a passion for music in children of all abilities. Children with musical flair are recognised quickly and they are encouraged to build on their skills. Weekly music lessons aim to help all the children flourish in other areas of learning. It is our vision that music lessons give the opportunity for children to become real musicians. The children participate in singing, tuned and untuned percussion work, composition, and listening to live and recorded music. All children are taught the skills to be able to compose using musical instruments. When the children are ready, musical notation is taught and the correct musical terminology e.g. rhythm, melody, pitch, dynamics. It is our aspiration that all children will be able to read and understand music notation by the time they leave Brandlehow Primary School.

During their music lessons they will also be learning songs in different languages, celebrating the different cultures within the school. We also welcome visitors into school whenever possible so the children can listen to live music.

Singing is highly important part of our day. Weekly singing assemblies take place to teach children how to sing with a sense of pitch and melody. They are taught how to warm up their voices, sing in rounds and harmony, and build up a repertoire of songs. We have musical theatre club which meet each week and put a performances to the school. To also inspire the children to sing, year 3 & 4 take part in the annual singing project and were able to perform a with other London schools at Fairfield Hall.
