Literacy
Literacy is taught by sharing a class book together, to engage and inspire our pupils to create a range of written genres. Our planning is underpinned by our long association with the CLPE’s ‘Power of Reading’ resources and training programme. High quality literature is carefully selected and creative teaching approaches, including the use of drama and art, support teachers to deliver a motivating literacy curriculum which fosters a whole school love of reading and writing.
Year group objectives follow the National Curriculum English Programme of Study (2014). Children have 6 Literacy lessons each week, which include the explicit teaching of spoken language, grammar, reading and writing. Spelling and handwriting are taught as additional lessons. Literacy Subject Plans map out when and how the National Curriculum objectives are taught and the writing genres they will inspire.
